Description The Roma Students Initiative for Barvalipe with the support of Open Society Foundations Roma Initiatives Office is pleased to announce the 3rd Barvalipe Roma Pride Summer School for young Roma from European countries. This 10-day international school, held in the picturesque mountains of Montenegro from 15-26 August 2013, intends to provide young Roma with a powerful experience and encourage them to choose to serve as role models, political leaders and civic activists able to advocate for themselves and their communities.
Participants will explore the roots and future of Roma identity in a learning environment with distinguished Roma professors and civil leaders. The 10-day Summer School includes a two-day study trip to the Jasenovac, concentration camp in Croatia, where approximately 20 000 Roma and Sinti died at the hand of the Nazis.
The goal of the 3rd Barvalipe Roma Pride Summer School is to create a young Roma community (group of people, or network) with an enriched identity who will be able to use tools for active citizenship, committed to promote the Roma interests. They welcome young Roma aged between 20 to 30 years old from countries participating in the Decade of Roma Inclusion 2001–2015 or beneficiaries of REF scholarships and OSF programs (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine). Candidates must be proficient in English, with the ability to speak, write and take an active part into discussions.
The organizers will cover all the financial costs for the entire period of the summer school including accommodation, meals, travel and visa. The participants will be required to pay a contribution fee in the amount of 20 EUR upon the arrival to the summer school.
